I use an attchment based framework to identity and heal empathic ruptures; we then uncover the core beliefs and fears underlying our protective behaviors (i.e. our anger, frustation, guardedness, anxiety, withdrawal, and detachment from our partners/spouses). This creates emotional safety for vulnerable sharing and a deepening of fractured connections. Understanding nervous system regulation will also be an integral component of couples therapy.
Preventative care is key! Connect with me for pre-marital counseling or to address impending change (e.g. deployment, new baby, career shift, parent moving in, etc.)
Military couples - you are no stranger to change, but that can take its toll. Inherent stressors of marriage/relationships are compounded by the nuances of military life, e.g. deployments, TDYs, shifting roles, trainings, evaluations, balancing dual careers, limited local family support, PCSing every couple of years. If you're seeking a seasoned couples/marriage therapist well-versed in Army and Air Force culture, contact me.
